How to scan your eye
Your scan takes less than 10 seconds. Follow these steps to get the most accurate result.
Use your phone's flashlight
Take your photo using your phone's built-in camera app. For the sharpest results, use a phone no more than 3 years old. Find a dimly lit room away from windows and bright overhead lights. Enable your camera's flashlight — set it to always-on rather than automatic — and let it illuminate your eye directly. Natural light and glare are the most common reasons a scan fails. Your iris — the colored part of your eye — needs to be clearly visible for an accurate result.
Tip: If you can clearly see the color of your iris in the preview, your lighting is good to go.
Position your phone
Hold your phone approximately 6 inches from your eye and zoom in slightly. Keep your hand steady — refer to the example below for how your eye should look in the frame.
Tip: For the steadiest shot, sit down and have a friend take the photo for you. This makes it much easier to hold still and get the right angle.
What a good photo looks like
Your photo should show the iris clearly with no blur, glare, or obstruction from your eyelid or lashes. Here is the difference between a photo we can read and one we cannot.
Upload and align your iris
Head to herbdock.com and click the Scan button to open the scan app. Once it loads, click Choose Eye Photo to upload the photo you just took. Pinch to zoom and drag your image so that your iris — the colored part of your eye — lines up with the circular guideline, as shown below. When it looks right, tap Confirm Position to lock it in, then tap Start Scan to complete your scan.
Get your result
